Came here to look for info. about how to get rid of a potential rooster. After losing 5 of our 6 chickens last fall to a fox we replaced them in February with chicks from a couple of different places in town. Three were from the feed store and one of them is a Black Australorp that has acted different than the others the entire time. Last week I heard what sounds like the beginning of a crowing sound and the comb is becoming quite pronounced on this bird. We cannot by law have a rooster in the city limits so now I have to figure out what to do with this guy.
I read that it takes about 6-10 weeks to tell the difference and this is just about the time frame that we have had the chickens and noticed the male features coming out in this one.
