What do you do with chickens after they stop laying eggs?

I have been thinking about it... and some people buy like 6 or so chickens a year. If they are only laying for the first two or three years of their life, it must be annoying to have around dozens of chickens from years past that do... nothing!

What do you do to them? I know some people kill them, but is there anyone that has found a different way?

If a chicken owner is running an egg business, then egg production profit needs to be higher than cost of feed and care. But many of us just keep chickens as a hobby and choose breeds that may not lay an egg every day when they are younger but continue to lay eggs even past three years old. Actually I just read about a production hen rescue in England, named Babs, who lived to the age of 7 years old and still layed 3 or 4 eggs per week.
