What do you do with old chickens that stop laying?

I am relatively new to chicken keeping, but I planned for that when I got my first chicks. I have tow "pastures" I can keep seperate. One will be for layers, the other for the retired girls.

We eat our extra chickens, roos etc. I think my chickens are great we pet them, love them and name them but we do and will eat them. I actually just learned to butcher them myself. Wasn't hard. But if you to attached you can just bring them into a processor and let them do it. Crock pot works great for older chickens or soup.

chicken-n-dumplings, chicken noodle soup, chicken broth, this is what happens to my laying hens when they reach about 30 months old.
I do have pet chickens and couple are 8 years old, they lay occasionally but not often.
On the older hens the leg and thigh meat can be tough even after boiling for a few hours. After I cook the whole chicken and good all that good broth I pull the chicken out, let it cool and pull off off the breast meat, wing meat and the white meat on the back and use that in whatever I'm making. The leg and thigh meat is a treat for my two dogs.
