What do you do with your chickens?

My son's RIR's are for eggs. My silkies and frizzle are pets. I just love watching them. I find it both entertaining and relaxing. The manure will be a nice bonus, it just really annoys me to have to buy dirt and crap!

I have them for eggs... (and their eggs pay for their food and sometimes the goat's food too!) I have them as pets (of sorts) and we keep our flock in rotation, and because I wanted to be "self sufficient" with my production, I will be hatching and butchering.

We will have our three fuzzy butts in the next two weeks. They will mainly be pets. I plan to show them in open class at the fair this year, collect their eggs, use their manure in our garden and teach my DD responsibility. Secretly they're all for me but I can't let anyone in the family in on THAT little secret. Although DH knows me too well. LOL!

Right now they are for eggs and fertilizer, when I get a farm I will raise some for meat. If I do get a broody this year any roosters hatched will become dinner. I also like chicken T.V. So far all of mine have names except the new babies.

Meat, eggs, and Zen! (not in that order)
