What do you feed to molters?

Hi everyone,

Wondering what treats/supplements you feed to your molting hens to help them out. I have been giving mine sunflowers seeds and ACV in their water. What else should I give? Thanks in advance!

Switch them to a high protein feed such as chick feed or meatbird.
Acv won't do anything for molting g and sunflower seeds are way too fatty for their low level of protein.

Thank you. I did a bit more research, and I'll start adding some cat food and more tuna into their diet too.

Lean cooked pork, tinned and drained mackerel, tuna, live yogurt.

Some hens go off their usual feed when they moult. If this is the case if you can let them forage then they seem to find enough of what they need to stay alive.

All our birds eat a 20% protein all flock diet all year.

Cat food generaly contain too much salt for chickens and with throw off their nutritional needs. Salt free meat or high protein feed

I feed cat food in small amounts as a little treat sometimes.

The most economical way to add protein to a low protein diet is to change to a higher protein feed! Buying meat, sardines, or cat food, rather than a better complete poultry feed, doesn't make sense to me.
