What do you feed your chickens in?

Can I just tell you how much I LOVE your feeder? Out of all the PVC feeders I've seen here and the homemade ones, this takes the cake: it's simple and elegant. I showed it to my husband a few days ago (I think you posted somewhere earlier) and he was also impressed. One question, how do you clean out all that food "dust" that collects at the bottom?
I use 10lb wall mounted hog feeders and they are THE BOMB. Also have nipple waterers, which I fully agree are the best thing since sliced bread

I plan to thoroughly clean out the feeder once a month. I'll simply unscrew the metal strapping that holds it to the wall of the coop to clean it out. I'll probably dump the dusty residue into a bowl, add warm water and a little yogurt, make it a nice "mush" for a cold morning. The Girls love that.

3" diameter pvc pipe any length. cut it in half along its length and glue pvc caps on each end. then use small chain or string and suspend it from roof. keep it a few inches above floor and chicks can get to any spilt food. this will also work as a waterer. hope i've explained it well enough to be understood. i have several of these. they work very well. hope this helps.

I found a 10' piece of plastic gutter at a garage sale for cheap. I mounted it to a 2 x 4 and then to the inside of the shed/coop wall. It gives plenty of shoulder room for all of the girls and they can't bill food out if mounted at the correct heighth. I did have an free feeding set up previously but the mice have been terrible this year so we ditched that idea for a while anyway. For that I had a large trash can with holes drilled near the bottom set in a pan with a 3" lip to prevent billing. The gutter has worked much better though and I will stick with it unless we need to go away for a few days. Then I'll use the trash can again so sitter doesn't have to worry about filling feed each day.

I use free plastic food buckets use a hole saw and it turns into a great feeder that they can't get into I can carry them around easy to clean keeps the rain out I love them.
