Hello!

The temps here have been in the upper 90's lately and my fluffy chickens are panting like crazy! I have heard that a cold watermelon is the best thing for a chicken on a hot day, but we don't have any watermelons. So I was wondering.... what things do you feed or do for your chickens on a hot day?

You can freeze or cool any fruit or veggie and give it to them.
Also, boil up some eggs and cool them in the refrigerator; they'll love pecking away at it.
Freeze up some ice cubes with fruit juice, puree, or a chicken feed mash.
Providing plenty of shade helps.
Also, if you have dirt areas in a shaded location, dig out a little hole for them to lay in the cool soil.

if you are in an area were it gets very hot for long spells, make sure they have lots of shade and lots of water, you can give cold or frozen food, I had some squash frozen that was getting old and they loved pecking at that all day.... it is also good to give chicken vitemans with electrolits when it is very hot, you can get as powder at most feed stores and add it to the water

Frozen jugs..frozen chunks of pumpkin/watermelon/mix of fruits and veggies frozen in a block/ boxed frozen veggies from supermarkets are cheap too if you don't have the freezer space for large blocks.
