Silver Laced Wyandotte Roo with a Gold Laced Wyandotte hen? Has anyone done this?

Umm I dont know maybe a mutt chicken. Its hard to say. Are you thinking of breeding for color or some other trait?

Not a mutt, it would be a pure Wyandotte. She would probably end up getting non-standard colors, but who knows! I say to just go for it and give it a whirl.

OHy that is true I dont know why I didnt notice that they are both Wyandottes? We need a smiley for smacking yourself in the head.

according to McMurray Hatchery, the BLR wyandotte was developed using the gold/silver laced cross.
Probably didn't get it from the original cross, but the result would be interesting.

Wow, Banty Chick, It would be fantastic if that cross would make me some Blue Laced Reds. As you say, there are probably some more complicated crossing, but will be interesting to see if it is even close to a BLR. Thanks, all.

Murray McMurray's info is not correct. BLR were developed in Germany using the now extinct GOLD Wyandotte (solid color) and Blue. It's possible that Silver got used at one point for the lacing, but the crossing of the two birds won't automatically result in blue laced reds. You have to have the blue gene present, and it takes hundreds of hatches to come up with just a few that actually are true to type.

Well, phooie, Blisschick--you ole spoilsport,
you!!

(Just kidding) Guess I knew I couldn't get that lucky.

Sorry...I just didnt' want to see anyone get any false hopes up. If I could just throw two birds together and have BLR's magically pop out the eggs, trust me, I would!
