What do you grow to feed the chickens??

HAahaa-- I dont wait for my husband anymore o r I would not get anything done. I'm sure your DH will apprecriate the benefits when the fruit arrives. Kids and I were clearing brush today and planted 27 mounds of summer squash-- 6 varieties. Fun silly strange varieties, nothing normal. lol. THen we decided that we need to plant in the big pen where a group of turkeys and extra roosters live-- the decision was to put those all in the freezer so we can plant. THEN onthe way home from the library, the local hardware store had put out free tomato plants. ooop. 48 romas

Ya know my whole life until 5 yrs. ago I was divorced and raising my kids alone so I do to do it all myself. Now I am married and have the privedge of asking someone else to do the hard stuff for me. Since I became disabled I cannot do so many things anymore. But DH understands most of the time and he has indulges my whims. lol
I wish I could do it and sometimes I try.... He will love the fruit when it does come your right. lol

How fun planting all that crazy squash. Most any place that sales plants will get rid of or through away the wilted or bad looking plants. I used to take them home all the time and give them away. :) Have fun with all those tomatoes, homemade tomato sauce is wonderful!
One thing is you can plant where ever there is soil and if there is none put them in pots! I do!

Sorry I dod not mean to sound like you SHOULD be doing any of that hard digging-- not yet-- maybe next year. I just meant that if I wait for DH to do it, it will never get done. Too much to do. ANd he has . . ummmm. . . a different vision than I do. lol

Kids planted 26 corn seeds in the middle of the swquah hills-- while we will eat the corn on the cob-- the chikens will get the cobs when we are finished eating-- they pick those CLEAN!

My garden is terribly late. My corn is about 6" tall. It is supposed to be "knee high by the 4th of July".
LOL I've NEVER had corn knee high by the 4th of July. lol ANd Maine is colder than here. Good luck with that one.

I will drive by a field tomorrow and take a look. THey already took one cutting of hay but in years past it has been corn field. WIll see if they have reseeded for corn . . . .always a delight to see that corn reaching for the sky.

Normally I have my seeds in the ground the end of April or first of May not this year! We all kept getting hit by polar vortex's! But that may be the new normal..
