What do you grow to feed the chickens??

sorghum, cool... i have a few growing around my yard, in my garden, some sprouted in my container pants. More chicken food. I love when random plants appear...Usually in my compost bins and piles. Never seen this before, but my DW throws uneaten parakeet, and love bird seed out when she cleans cages so that's probably where it came from. We tried to grow millet spray from seed off store-bought millet bought it looks nothing like what we planted. Birds still eat it though.

just started reading this thread.Lots of great ideas and I'm only a few pages in.I'm going to start a list of good perennials for Tennessee I'll certainly be planting white clover and dandelion: )

we chopped veggies and tossed them on a plastic tray when ours were tiny chicks.now I can throw plants and weeds on it and they eat whatever I put on the "food zone"

Recently The old tomatos, handfuls of clover and grass have gone to the buckeyes; handfuls of sourclover and grasses to the mixed group caged in a coop and run to save them from the darn raccoon. ANd looking forward to reworking the gardens this fall in prep for spring planting!!

THe summer squash are doing poorly Too cold and a late start do to a cold spring. So nothing there to feed the birds. Looking forward to a new year of planting!!

I planted some in my garden this year. It's just putting out seed heads, and it's 9 feet tall.
I'm planinning on planting sorphum next year. Looks very easy to plant and collect the seed. I still need to do much to make space for these as the stump sprouts have grown in and the wild grapes and raspberries are quickly taking over. Definitely no sense of organization lol

Sprouting is my next project. After garden clean up, finishing grading and planting new lawn, finishing new coop.
I bought a bag of black oil sun flower seeds at the farmers co-op for 12-13 dollars but then I was looking for oats or wheat and only found whole oats for 28. dollars! That is no deal so I am going to the farmers co-op to see what they have. I would also like to sprout some wheat and barley but oats puts the weight on them. I am also feeding a seed mix with some corn mixed into their food and they love it.
