What do you grow to feed the chickens??

WE are letting every wild grape grow, some for birds, some for us.

Chickens are fenced out of the garden but I weed and toss into different pens. THey seem to like most everything. Not sure about young raspberry plants that volunteer. . . . sometimes I toss in sometimes not.

Basically I"m giving the chooks all the weeds right now!! lol

Planted more sunflowers, basil, and amaranth.

Oh I envy that you got the amaranthe planted!! I back burnered that for another year as the plan was to have the chook harvest it and right now all the prime growing are is inside my garden area. Hopefully next year more land will be cleared and there will be good areas for the amaranthe!!

Another plant that grows wild and the chickens love is purslane.
THis is one I really need to check up on. I'm sure it is not the only wild plant I should be taking note of to feed the chickens. I see so many wild plants while weeding and wonder what it is and more importantly, can I feed it to the chickens!!

Purslane is reportedly the number one Omega 3 source in the plant kingdom, very good for the heart. When chickens consume purslane, it enriches their eggs with more omega 3.
