What do you guys do to keep mosquitoes out of your run?

As mentioned above, air movement is the answer; or a mosquito net.
I have yet to find any repellent that actually works.

Try the homemade stuff I gave the recipe for. It’ll cost less than a can of commercial spray to make to try.

For the permethrin and I’m going to make a bigger batch next time and see how using it the pump Sprayer works. My hand starts to cramp up using the small bottle sprayer.

I use a gallon sprayer but I have a lot of coops and use the whole gallon on all of the coops. I use the Scotts sprayer because I like the fan spray. I have other ones too.

I tried to put OFF bug spray on a hat and wear it to keep flies away but I swear it attracts them to my head instead.

I have read that icaridin has shown some promise with many critters, but have seen zero literature pertaining to chickens. But as some have said, there isn't really much reason to worry about mozzies and chickens.

Mine eat them like candy and if one of those blasted rickety flying contraptions managed to actually get a feed off a chicken, then I'll be a monkey's uncle. I have watched my girls snatch them out of the air while sleeping! And we have mozzies round here. Boy do we... And they are usually packin a chainsaw! By the time you notice the blasted bug landing on you, your arm's gone...

Edit: I should also say that there is a place in heaven for whoever invented deet! 30% solution made by Woods and sold by Crappy Tire, keeps the beggars off of me like nobody's bidness. Bloody life saver out here on the muskeg.

Bug zappers don't work well, if at all, on mosquitos. Good for flies, though.

I could use an outdoor fly zapper. Do you have a model/brand you can recommend?

long term idea to slowly cut down the skeeter population: keep a couple of containers with water that will go stagnant. Keep mosquito dunks in them. The skeeters will gravitate to the standing water to lay their eggs and the larva won't survive. Mosquitos spend their whole lives in a relatively small area. They do not travel far at all.

I am wary of the phrase: ..."high potential to bioaccumulate"... but they do say "not highly toxic to birds or fish". I am told by my former rancher neighbours that it works extremely well on their steers and horses -- keeping the flies, mozzies and ticks off. We use it as personal repellant but it is slightly inferior to deet.
