What do you line your trays with?

Hello all,
I am getting into quail keeping and had a question about what to line the cage tray with to catch their dropings? Newspaper? Wood shavings? Wood pellets? Sand?

What do you use under your cages in trays for those of you that have trays?

I have found the best thing to use to prevent sticking is $100 bills.....



Just kidding, I use a single layer of newspaper, the moisture will cause it to stick a bit, but when I turn the tray up to dump it i just peel back a clean corner till it slides off.

I line my rabbits (soon to be quail hah!) cages with puppy pads. It controls odor and kinda dries everything up as well as is super easy to just grab and throw away then put down a new one. It's not super expensive but it can be taped down unlike wood shavings that I had troubles with blowing away if outside. Obviously newspaper and shavings/pellets would be cheaper
