I am going to purchase some black oil sunflower seeds for my birds right now as they are molting, and come winter I may get some cracked corn. How much do you all pay for this? I can buy it in bulk from my local nursery (in the bird feed section), but I have a feeling it would be higher there than at a feed store. Give me an idea of what a "normal" cost would be per lb.

It varries by region, so you and I could be dollars apart and still getting the best price. Corn here is around $7 for 50 pounds, scratch (local blend, good quality) $10 for 50 pounds. In my experiance the feed store is always cheaper than "bird food" somewhere else.

I pay $10.50 for 50 pounds.

The ingredients change put always consist of

cracked corn, milo and oats, at times they will add sunflower or wheat. I guess it depends on supply and cost of the other ingredients.

The reason I want to buy in bulk is because I will not go through 50lbs. of cracked corn. At the nursery it was .39 a lb., so based on what you are all posting, that would be a pretty good price. Thank you all!

The local feed store has 25 lbs for $8, or 50 lbs for $12. I suspect we pay premium prices because it's an urban area. The feed store is a relic of before the development took over.

Walmart has chicken scratch???!! (Not that I would shop at Walmart. They may be cheap, but I deplore the way they have contributed to the loss of jobs in America in favor of goods from mostly China, as well as various abuses of their employees.)
