What do you prefer?
Buying Hatching eggs to raise your chickens?
Buying chicks to raise?
Buying Adults and raising your own?

I prefer buying eggs to hatch.

I will be buying birds that are at least old enough to sex. I would love to hatch my own eggs, but I do NOT plan on having to deal with extra roosters. If we could just sex them in the shell, I'd be thrilled!

I prefer to buy mature birds, that way you know what you are getting. With eggs there is no garuntee they will hatch, you dont know the gender, you dont know if they will be deformed. Chicks can die to easily.

I truly prefer to buy them as 2 mos old pullets (usually by then you can tell the gender).

But I like all of the above.

Gosh, what a hard question!
In the past 5 months I have experienced all of the above for the first time!
Got adult birds and they are really cool. I knew what most of the sexes were. Got fooled on one but they are good birds and have been nice to deal with.
Hatched out Cochin and Silkie eggs. That was really neat, if not a nail biting experience, even though the hens did all the work. LOL
And bought chicks of many different breeds and am having a total blast watching them grow and shape up.
Geez! I think I just like all chicken doings!
I'd do any of it all over again.

I have a policy against buying adult birds-way, way too stressful with the disease factor!
