1/4 bag of oyster shell, $6.95/bag = $1.74
Free-range grass and bugs and dates= free

TOTAL= $117.34 per week



Chickens lay 10 eggs a day, average. Cost of each egg is .48 cents. That's not factoring in ANYTHING besides lay crumble and oyster shell.

I go once a month to the feed store. DH feeds his dogs, and he does a raw diet. I don't even want to know what he spends

2) 50# gamebird starter @ 14 per bag= $28.00
1) 50# nutrena layer pellets @ 9 per bag= $9.00
1) 25# BOSS @ $11.99 per bag= $12.00
2) bales of alfalfa @ 7 per bag= $14.00

*So about $60.00? This honestly lasts me longer than a month, as I usually have feed left over. I'd say it's closer to $40.00 per month. I've had the same bag of BOSS for a while now, I just toss out a handful every once in a while.

One bag of oyster shell has lasted me for nearly a year. All of my birds (except my BC Marans and lavender guineas) free range and that cuts down a LOT on my feed bill. My marans and guineas get the alfalfa.

We also live at a feedyard where my DH works and I am about 300 yards from one of the feed mills. At 6:00pm when everyone goes home I trot out there with a broom, scoop, & bucket and pick up the piles of corn and rations that spill over the top of the feed trucks. That saves a TON! I try to get ration 1, which is 28% protien and packed with minerals. Since they free-range they don't eat a lot of anything that I put out, but there is always a variety of feeds available to them.

we spend $150 a week on feed spring through fall so $600 a month....that does include grit, oyster shells and all that good stuff.

We feed chickens, ducks, geese, goats and a steer.

What is BOSS?

I am spending about 65 a month for 25 chickens, 2 dogs and 2 cats. Most of that is for the birds. I should be able to start selling eggs soon and I am hoping to make about $120 a month so I will have extra to cover the other stuff like meds, cat litter, etc, etc, etc.
