What do you think killed my chicken? UPDATE!

Well with all due respect, my original post was about what predator killed my chicken, not about laws or neighbors. I wanted some input so I could suss out a varmint and try and figure out how/what happened.
I've already been down the FR debate road on this site, but feel free to start a new one regarding your city laws or good/bad relationships with neighbors.

I think it's quite clear here on this board that we do not all think alike on chicken care. Some people eat their chickens after they stop laying

, some keep them in coops

Whatever works.

Could it be a stray cat? I've had a stray try and "play" with our chickens and I'm sure they could go too far...I also agree with you free ranging your chickens, I live out in the woods and FR mine. It keeps the ticks and japanese beetle population down. But to each their own decision, live and let live. I know everyone's situation is different but hey, we all love our chickens...

I'd say a dog. A raptor would leave a pile of feathers where they attacked the bird, but would probably not leave feathers everywhere and not take the food. Dogs will play with a chicken until it stops playing back then leave the broken toy and move on....my guess is a dog.
