What do you think this Great Pyrenees is mixed with?

There's no way to tell anything about breeds from a picture.
If you are looking for a WORKING LGD, get one from working parents.
If you want a "yard dog", look for another breed

They are both adorable.

I would say if you are interested in him then go take a visit.

I do think that shelter dogs can make wonderful pets and workers. I know several people on other forums that have gotten rescues and did great things with them; TDI, Agility, Herding, SchH.

So LGDs in pounds should just be left there to be euthanized?

Dogs in pounds are not usually there through any fault of their own, typically a human has let them down whether by abandoning them or failing to train them. My best SAR dogs have come from the pound.

I'm guessing they have Border Collie in them, because of the distinct mask. I worked at a shelter for over 3 years, & it's a WONDERFUL idea to adopt. So many of my dogs are from there. (see My Page). Adoption FAR exceeds death, & you can get some Great dogs.

GP's can have color on their heads. Look pretty pure to me. If they have a lot of size when you see them. Big big pups then I would go for it. Sometimes people just get tired of raising the pups and send the remaining ones to the shelter. Shelters just assume they are mixed. Also look for double dew claws. What do you have to loose some time and you just might end up w something nice..Look pretty good to me....

Well two problems, one he was there this morning, but by this afternoon he was gone. Second I found some great ones about 5 hours from me and was all ready to get one. I had talked to my landlord before and she said it shouldnt be a problem, I called her to confirm today (was gonna go get my puppy at the end of the week) and she completely changed her mind. I was completely prepared and had done all my research (have been researching these guys for 2 years). Ive been fighting back tears ever since I talked to her. I cant believe this, it would in NO way what so ever affect her. Her dumb excuse was dogs that live out in the cold are a liability. She is stubborn and wouldnt listen to a word I had to say. She has always been the type that pretends to know all the facts because of ONE single thing she heard and then when you correct her she is fine. Except this time she wouldnt let me correct her. She believe everything she hears. If a friend of hers told her tomorrow that it would be a good idea and gave some stupid reason shed be all for it.

If you rent, and you have a landlord, you might want to rethink getting a GP. I have two that are almost a year old. I'm hoping that they are nearing the end of the chew everything in site and dig up everything and destroy everything mode but I'm not betting on it. You can't leave a broom or a mop or a bag of potting soil or anything in their reach. The male now free roams our farm and guards all of our free roaming livestock and chickens and no longer feels the need to destroy everything but his sister still has to be confined to the very large fenced back yard because she still loves the taste of fresh poultry - she's learning but not there yet - so she occupies herself with destroying the yard and anything in it.

Most people with GPs will tell you the first year of life, if not their entire lives, will be occupied with chewing up anything and everything they can. We know the families that own all the litter mates to our dogs and our dogs have destroyed the least of the bunch. One person's dog ate their lawn furniture. Well, they don't actually eat the stuff, they just shred it into a million pieces.

These were meant to be working LGDs and not house pets or confined yard pets.
