Should I get some Rhode Island Red Bantams for my first chickens? And if so how good do they produce eggs?

RIR bantams are supposed to be good egg layers. If that's the breed you want, go for it.

RIR are one of my favorite breeds for egg production. I've only owned standard RIR and I've been pleased with the breed. Keep in mind that bantam eggs will be smaller. If you've researched the breed and you like it, I say go for it! Or, maybe get more than one breed if you can and see if you like one more than the other. Check out the breeds section here at BYC to look at some others if you want.

One more question though. Are they mean or flighty because they won't be able to roam around in my yard they will just be in the coop.
