What do you use for a dustbath?

I gave my chicks a box with playsand. At first they ignored it but then Elanor decided to bath and that was it. Trouble followed suit but the rest of my chicks are still holding out. I am new at this so it was a crap shoot. They seem to like to dig around in it as I put it out when I put them in the wire dog kennel I use as a playpen. I will probably give them a bigger box with sand when they move into the tractor with their yard.

Here's what I gave the girls:

. It's a cat litter pan I found at a thrift shop for $2. I've noticed they mostly use it when the sun is shining bright on it. They take a bath and then take a nap in it.

Here's where I have it in the run:

During the winter I used wood ash with some DE tossed in. Now that it is warmer, the gals are digging like crazy in their run - it is almost like a mine field! I still put DE in one of the holes about 1 x weekly - they love it.

I generally take water baths, not dustbaths. Actually, I prefer a shower.
My chooks on the other hand have a hole under their coop that I'm sure leads right to China; and another one under my DH's bike shed, and another one behind the storm shelter and another one.....
