So what does everyone use for their nesting boxes? Thinking of using straw but would like to know what everyone else uses, thanks!

I use straw and/or grass hay. Which ever I have around. I usually have both for the horses, so I use what I have. My muscovy duck is setting on 9 eggs in a straw nest right now!!. I think either is just fine as long as it is not moldy. If it smells nice then I use it, if not, onto the compost pile it goes!

I use both. Straw is cheaper. Pine shavings look neater. But the hens actually turn the straw into a pretty neat nest. Depends on what you have on hand but they both work great.

Great inputs everyone, going the straw route because its always on hand for me and cost effective. Looks like I will be using the straw from last years Thanksgiving decorations.

If it's been stored outside as a decoration and has gotten wet, it may be growing mold....dry clean straw works great, moldy straw can be a mold ridden mess.

Thank you for the heads up aart but this was used on the outside deck with a roof over head so no mold here :)
