Just pull the cat out by the tail!
To clean dog's ear:
Buy a box of band-aids and a bottle of whiskey.
Pour a shot of whiskey in a glass, drink it.
Open at least two or three band-aids.
Pour shot of whiskey and drink it.
Wrap cat in a towel with tail sticking out.
Have spouse hold towel wrapped cat, pour whiskey and drink it, and put bandaids on your open wounds.
Stick cats tail in dogs ear.
Grab bottle of whiskey and take a swig.
Open three more bandaids
Twirl cat, while holding tail in dogs ear.
Take another swig - you need it.
Bandaid on other open wounds and pull cat back from the top of the curtains.
Re-wrap cat and try once more to get the tail in the dang dogs ear.
Send spouse out for another bottle of whiskey.
Boot cat and dog outside and turn off the lights to calm your aching head.
Call Vet.

I have bassets. Ear infection and nasty yucky ear prone creatures. Have NO problems with anyone but the new foster, but she came in with a massive ear infection as well as deformed ear canals so she doesn't apply

We also use camphophenique, and have for years.

Vet told us regular peroxide on a cotton ball was OK. Seems to work.
Our dogs like to clean each others' ears. This is fine when the Pyr is licking the Newf, as the Pyr does a pretty good job of it. The other way round...well...the Pyr gets a lot of chronic ear infections, most of which originate in gobbets of Newfoundland drool.
