What do you use to guard your flock?

I haven't had any problems so far. I have 300 feet of Premier's PermaNet powered by a Patriot P5. No predator attacks so far. and there are a few ducks that do not want to go inside the coop at night and thus remain somewhat exposed. The dog certainly finds the fence painful, and hopefully the coyotes, raccoons and foxes do too.

During the day my 3 dogs are in the backyard that's next to the chicken run and coop.

My aussie has taken on the job to keep an eye on the back pasture watching for coyote. I have a young one that's been visiting, eating mice, and looking at the chicken run.

Missy puts up such a fuss with the high-pitched barking that it goes back in the woods.

I only free range when I'm out watching myself due to red tail and bald eagle.

ALWAYS lock up in preditor proof coop at night.

I have a German Shepherd Dog.

HOWever, he likes the chickens as much as the coons do. So he goes on a chain at night next to, but not within touching distance of the coop. I move him around periodically. So far, this has kept the night time predators away from my chickens.

My main flock free ranges during the day. Now if I could just teach the chickens to not be suicidal and walk near the bull dog on a chain.

Mine ate one chicken and one duck before we broke him of it.
Now they wander right up to him and he ignores them. He will rush the ducks to try to chase them to fly, but never opens the mouth any longer. We used the training collar to achieve this, and change his palette from fresh bird to protector status only.

I just had a problem with raccoons, so I cut a hole in a 30 gallon
barrell and put cat food inside,if they enter they can't get out- then you can load the barrel and take elsewhere! Or------- Teresa
