What do you use to record temp?

For someone starting out a thermometer can be a confidence booster. Nothing wrong with using one. But by your second or third brood you'll probably just watch the chicks.

When you are there look at all the thermometers on the shelf. See how they are reading. I've seen 8 degrees F difference in the readings high to low with different thermometers on the same shelf. That's how accurate they can be. Try to get one somewhere in the middle or at least around where the majority are. It's more likely to read more close to the correct temperature.

Obviously that kind of thermometer is no good for an incubator, for incubation you need accuracy and precision. That is close enough for a brooder, you have a lot bigger tolerance for what works.
