What do you use to scald your TURKEYS?

I have a 35lb turkey i have to 'do in' for thanksgiving dinner.

i can get someone else to kill him(i cant!) and then i can do the rest but what kind of container do you use to dip them in?

this is a big guy and i cant think of anything but a huge metal bucket or garbage can.

any suggestions?

Just try and find anything he will fit in and then sterilize it with boiling water, probably not needed but you cant be to careful, some sort of metal container would be best, but whatever you use it doesn't really matter as long as it is clean, hope this helps

On my old computer I have a link to a blog where a lady used a new, clean, metal trash can for her turkey scalder. Had great pictures and everything. Wish I still had it. I just searched for and couldn't find it. Oh, well.

Anyway, yes, a trash can apparently will work.

and just heat it over a fire?

we have an OLD corn cooking pot (this place used to be a corn farm and they often did feeds here. But it has had flowers planted in it...or at least dirt for many many years, so i dont know if that will work anymore, i plan on checking though. its huge and iron, the kind you hang over the fire.

My drum is up on cinder blocks with a propane turkey deep fryer stove underneath.

I laugh because... it turned into a turkey scalder! My grandma was so mad when she came home to find me dunking the turkeys in it. Needless to say... it became a flower pot as well.

I know have equipment designed for turkeys but at the time I worked with what I had.....

So yes, take the flowers out and use it as a scalder!! It's perfect...
