What does _________________ mean? Question thread!

How much space do quail and ducks need in their coop/house? Not in the run part, just the coop.
I think that Quail only need about a square foot of space in total to comfortably live in. That’s sort of for the run and coop. More would be appreciated, but a square foot is enough. They are tiny little birds! I don’t know about ducks, I think they quite a lot. They need some grass and a pond if possible.

For quail, is it better for them to have this kind of thing going on:

With all the branches and stuff, or just like this:

(these are both images I found on google, they are not mine)
If I were a quail, I’d rather the first one. It looks so cool! I think they’d like it more with all the places they can hide and the things they can eat and scratch around in! Both are nice though! I would like to have quail, but I don’t think my parents would let me. I'd have 5 or 6 in a 1 x 2m coop, with a roof over the whole thing. It would be filled with fine mulch for them to forage in, and would have lots of plants, branches and hiding places. They’d have a little nest/sleeping area full of warm hemp bedding! It would be soo cool! I love quail, and their mini eggs are delicious and adorable!

I have a question

What is a good ratio between boy quail and girl quail? Does it depend on the breed?
I'm no quail expert, but I think that it depends on the breed. I think that for some breeds it's 1:1, but for others you want 1:3 or 1:4

I'm aiming to have some in the future...I'd probably want a 5'x6' thing, with 10 quail! That's way more space than they need, but I could set up all the branches and stuff!

I've heard from 1 per sq. Foot to 3.5 per sq. Foot. Different ratios work with different flocks.

Ad for sex ratios, I have one group with 1M and 3F and one with 1M and 4F. Bald heads are a given, but the male's seem to have slowed down and the hens are getting their feathers back now

In the future, I want to have 6 ducks with 120 square feet in the run. I'd like them to be able to roam, swim, and play. I was just wondering because I know that they need a coop....how much indoor space do they need?

Thanks! That's so helpful for me.

I think if you’re trying to breed, then you would want a higher male to female ratio for higher fertility rates. If I got quail I would probably have about six females and two males, just so I could occasionally hatch out some more eggs if the numbers got low.
