20 weeks is pretty early for traditional, large fowl breeds. It is late for the RSLs and other commercial hybrid types like the ISA Brown.

ok cool. so apparentally my 4 little hens wont be laying.....ANY time soon then lol they are way smaller than that and dont have full crowns yet!!!!!LOL!!!!! are you sure those are 20 WEEK old babies???? not saying that you are lying to me but i am just wondering if they are older than 20 WEEKS!! BTW, the red feature on their heads is called a comb. Just do my "educator" thing.

OH MY GOSH they are huge for that age!!! LOL!!!! i have 3 barred rocks all laying (Rose,Baby<and Henrietta), and 3 golden comets 9Sweetpea,Button,and Angie) all laying but i also have a babies Roo (RIR) Breveheart,Nugget assumed to be bantam mix lol, barred rock Robin, Sunshine a fancy breed that i dont know by heart lol, and Rosemarry no clue!!! so they are probably like 15 weeks because they are medium size but length size they are as tall as the golden comets and 2 of the barred rocks lol.

Mine will be 20 weeks October 5th. Out of 12, I have 3 early bloomers that have started to lay, they are two of the barred rock and one of the EE. So, you may get eggs early if you are lucky, but it mainly depends on the breed rather than luck. If you are new to chicken keeping, it might be good to get a few books on it from your local library and then ask here for people's personal experiences. Everyone has been wonderfuly helpful to me, hope I can pass it along.

Storey's guide to Chickenkeeping is a really good reference. Where did you get your chickens that you are not sure of their age? If you wanna know how old they are, someone might be able to help if you post a picture.
