What does a 22 day old egg look like? Half filled?

The reason I'm asking is today is day 22 and there for I candled and I saw the eggs were not completely black, they were more then half but not totally black. I thought I saw movement but maybe I saw te dead chick move when I moved the egg? I really need to know what I'm seeing since my eyes are not good and I would like to remove any bad eggs. 2 hatched out Friday and before dawn Saturday. I just got to know since one egg has a small crack and I do not want to smell a rotten egg! Can anyone explain what I should see, and maybe a picture? Thanks

Most of the egg should be dark, with a bit of veining between the dark mass (the chick) and the air sac. Day 22 won't look much, if at all different from the day 18 photo in this link.

well they look like that, but no movement, are they suposed to move in the egg? Guess I'm just worried they will be bad, and if the one with the small crack in it blows the whole broody box will stink to high heaven I hear. Do they move much at this stage? Mine are not moving at all.

I do not always see movement when I candle in the late stages of incubation, but yes, they do often move. If you can't tell by candling, do a float test. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ng-egg-viability-for-late-or-overdue-hatching Take a sniff of the eggs. You'll smell it before you have one explode. If the crack you talk about is not a pip, the egg should be removed and candled. If it is alive, the crack needs to be sealed, if it is dead the egg needs to be thrown out. The smell of a rotten egg is the worst thing you'll ever smell. We threw out rotten eggs from my hen's secret stash

I do not smell anything, and there is a crack, but I'm not sure it's a pip, , how do I seal it up? They smell fine, and I see feet in one , I'm so happy! Praying my babies hatch and I'm over all this tension. So glad you told me there was smell ! So glad there was none lol.Thank you !

Melt a birthday candle and let the wax drip over the crack.
Be absolutely sure it's not a pip before you do this. I personally would be float testing the eggs that don't have cracks, because they go bad pretty quickly. Today is day 23, correct? and considering the others hatched a few days ago, it's likely that these are not good, just not smelly yet.

I came home today and found the shell was coming off, the membrane was totally dried up and the chick was dead, or I assume it was since it was crumbling ( the shell) and the membrane was tough. I'm giving the other 2 eggs the night and then by by tomorrow. We're pretty sad about it, but what can you do .

I have a duck egg, that was over heated, I cooled it down right away, then when I did the light test I saw white spots, it was almost fully black but now there are some spots appearing, I got the spots to stop, but will they go away,and is it dead? Plz tell me, this egg was abandon, there was tornados and the mother left it, it began to rain so I took care of it, and I really hope that its not dead,BC I love animals and can't bare the thought that its my faulttha it died....
