What does 'a good flyer' mean?

Exactly what it says on the tin. It means the bird is a good flier - at least as far as chickens go - and can easily fly over many fences and get into trees. A covered run is a good idea if you have a bird that's a good flier or you will need to clip their wings

Reading some people's descriptions of chickens some being 'a good flier', why is that said in a positive tone??
I wouldn't want my chickens to fly away lol

Note to 12 year old son: quail are good flyers, they can fly at 4-5 weeks, they jump straight up so don’t open the top of the hutch. 12 year old son apparently didn’t get memo and opens top of hutch! Good thing mom is right there and birds are young, fairly tame, and overwhelmed by the outside world…got all three back in but it could have been ugly!
