What does Dark Cornish mean?

That was him in the 'breeding pen' (a chicken tractor). The two hens on the right are the Freedom Ranger (gourmet blacks). On the left were two Black Sex Links. This turned out to be a pretty good pen.

My Golden Freedom Ranger rooster, though, is an utter massive beast. I have high hopes for him. He's called "The Big Show".

greyfields...if i order rangers this spring..can i keep a roo aside..and mate him with a buff orp.or a delaware hen?..will i get meat birds then?

Yes, you can do it. The issue is that all broilers are hybrids, though, meaning they rebreed randomly. Within the same clutch of eggs, none of the offspring will look the same or perform identically. You also don't get nearly the heterosis you do from the F1 matings.

However, all my breeding 'experiments' have shown that rebreeding my Fredom Rangers (colored range broilers) give me the largest homegrown broilers I have yet to produce. They certainly outperform any purebred X purebred heavy breed chicken combinations I've tried.
