What does "egg bound" and "internal laying" mean?

Eggbound means the egg gets stuck coming out. Internal layer means that the yolks are deposited into the abdomen. They build up and get hard until the hen passes away. I have processed hens that were internal layers and the yolks actually look like flat omelets compacted around all of the organs. :-(

egg bound is when the peristalsis (smooth muscle motion) in the oviduct can't move the egg out the vent for any number of reasons. internal laying is when the yolk is produced, but doesn't find it's way into the oviduct, instead gets deposited into the abdominal cavity.

ETA -- yup, what she said.
