Totally out of context it would mean actively talking with another person.

Or

You engaged in conversation with xxxx three days ago and topics covered were zzz as a journal entry.

When you hover over someone's username and it says "Last seen: a moment ago - Engaged in conversation"

It means their last post was in a PM.
