In my pen I think I have 6 females and 2 males. Their pen has a wire bottom with some branches in it with some dead leaves still attached to them so they can get in there and hide. Will they get leaves off the branches and make a nest in the corner of the pen or what? Im interested to know what all you Bobwhite Quail raisers uses for nesting material?
Thanks,
Cole.

I don't use anything for them to lay "in". I have 1/2" hardware cloth for flooring in all my pens, and they just drop their eggs on the wire where ever. Lots cleaner eggs are the results (at least that's my opinion). Nesting boxes, in my opinion, are just added places to "maintain"..........(it becomes the convenient poo-poo room where eggs get deposited - and soiled).

Here are some pics of mine. If you know the sex I would appeciate any input. The 2 ducks are hopefully leaving tomorrow. Then the whole pen will be covered in leaves and sticks and look natural. In the second picture I think its a male in front, he escaped a while ago and I just caught him today. That's why he looks kind of lethargic. In the 4th pic the female? in the back has her eyes closed because of the flash I think. She's not sick.

Birdman, I've noticed the male/female colors start really truing up at about 10 weeks or so. Here are some of my 21 week old GGs. As you can tell, the colors are very pronounced, but sometimes the males will carry a little of the "gold" upwards towards the head kinda eventually fading out, but the male's white color dominates once into the head area. By the way, they're about to go to Camp Kenmore

Here's some 11 week old birds. As you can see, the true "white" and "gold" heads aren't quite developed fully yet.....
