I am interested in learning what waters / feeders work best in a coop/cage.

Right now I am using the generic mason jar feeder and waterer. Was wondering if wall mount feeders/waters work better. Might keep the little guys from pooping in their water.

I fully expect a wide array of input! So please - let loose!

I use the same waterer and feeder you use, I just elevate the waterer on a 1 inch piece of wood (the same length as the waterer) and they can easily drink from it and no feces gets inside.

Oh and welcome to BYC!

I can't say how well it will work yet as I don't have my birds yet and I'm new to poultry but I've got the Bass 11 1/2" wide mouth cage mounted feeders with lids and the chicken waterer cups hooked to a low pressure reducing automatic system.

Here are the feeders: http://bassequipment.com/files/images/content/g-1.jpg

Here are the waterer's: http://www.beaktime.com/pagepicture/automatic-chicken-waterer.jpg

Only time will tell how it pans out but it looks good on paper!
Tell me if that works once you get your quail, maybe I'll do the same with mine. Getting tired of giving them food/water every single day.

There is a lot of good info in the BYC archives if you do an advanced search on feeders and waterers there are 23 pages, each with 25 threads listed, all covering this same subject.

The nice thing about the cup waterers is that they stay out of the way so they don't take up space and if you have a large water source, you don't have to fill them often.

I have and use a lot of these waterers, georgia quail farm soda bottle waterers, I never had any poop in one, they ALL get a little feed from the birds beaks in them, another plus is you change water outside the pen.

And I use these feeders with trays to cut waste.
