Hi all,
Mikey, Ed and I want to know what hollaback? or however it is spelt means!!
Her song" Aint no holloback Girl" doesnt mean anything to us here, please enlighten us to the meaning:barnie.

Its a cheerleader that yells back what the head cheerleader wants

i.e.
Headcheerleader: S-P-I-R-I-T! What does that spell?
Holla back Girl: Spirit!

In the song it is derogatory for a girl who is used by a guy and waits for him to call, kinda like a booty call.

Thankyou so much, Now Ed is saying: No theyre wrong, it means a girl with a hollow back!!!!
See what I have to put up with.

LOL! In the south, we say holler all the time, just slang for get back to me, like give me a yell.. so "holla" would be slang for the slang "holler", lol!!!...yeah, we are soooo redneck, lol!!

When I say holler I usually say it like:
"Why are you hollering?"
"Do you hear those chickens out there hollering?"
"That _____ made me so mad I could just holler!"

I have never told someone to "holler back", never had someone tell me that either.

I'd go with the first response. I think she's even dressed like a cheerleader in the music video.

Yup, cheerleading term.

My daughter was a cheerleader for years.
I also caught an interview on TV with Gwen Stefani when the song first came out and a lot of people were wondering about it.

Glad to know-I am so outta the loop here ! I never watch MTV. Just never got into it. Grew up on HeeHaw!!

Didn't get cable til I got married!

well, my b/f had a friend over once.....I had never met the guy previously, and as he left I said, "Take care now, ya hear?" and he says, "Holla back!" since I've heard the song I repeated Gwen in saying, "I ain't no holla back girl!" He laughed.

Saying Holla Back to one another here seems to be popular with a certain group of people out here. I never heard it in FL.

We're like Scrambled here. We always say "Give us a holler" or "Holler if you need something"

In the song it has a different meaning that's all.
