What does "holloback" mean???as in G.Stefani

Bantymum (our favorite Australian), as other people have said, in slang, "holler" means to yell something. But I'm from the northeastern part of the country, and I've never heard "hollaback" until the Gwen S. song. My impression was that it wasn't entirely linked to cheerleading?...

I just asked my 16 yr old son - he said that it's not nice. It's a term used to describe a naughty girl or let's put it like this: a girl that is "easy" and a guy could call her at anytime.

I am not a fall back girl, you know the easy girl that some guys call because she is a cheap date that is really friendly. Don't you just love slang? Kind of goes with that old saying, "Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?"

Googled it:

A hollaback girl, or, to be more precise, a holler back girl, is a cheer leading term.

The chief cheerleader calls out and gets a response from the other members of the team as in "Gimme an A". The cheerleaders that respond are holler back girls.

In the Gwen Stefani song, though, she uses the device of the hollaback girl to get across the point that she doesn't meekly obey commands or can be taken advantage of. So the reference works on two levels.

The video and costumes for the song, though, give some clues as to the meaning of hollaback girl.

Stefani has been reported as saying that the inspiration for the song came from an incident when she was called a cheerleader as an insult. The lyrics suggest that Gwen ain't no pushover and will come out fighting.

According to the Urban Dictionary, a hollaback girls is all talk and no action.​

Where I'm from we will say " Holler if you need something" or "I'll holler at you later".
I think yall can figure out the underlying meanings.

As far as it being a term associated with "working girls", that's just some new slang invented by todays younger generation.
