what does it mean to go broody?

Thanks for the photos of your broody girls. Mine haven't gone broody yet, but my Silkie may be starting. Or it may just be her way of laying for now. Yesterday everyone who is laying laid in the ark, but for Tina (my Silkie, after Tina Turner). At coop-in, Tina went upstairs and in about 15 mins. I checked in on her. She was very quiet in a corner, spread out.

I tipped up her hiney, and sure enough there was a nice warm egg. I removed the egg and she went on downstairs. So not really broody I guess, but I know Silkies are prone to be broody, so we'll see what develops.
