What does it take for quail to lay in winter

I wouldn't keep an adult bird in .25 sq feet that would be very dangerous for the birds and I wouldn't want to risk that. Right now I have them at .75 sq. feet per bird and I'm planning on increasing it to 2 sq. feet per bird soon. From my experience albeit limited, there recommendations have worked well for me although it did start to become crowded once it started nearing the of the time frame they listed. If I were to change something about what they wrote I would make the time frame shorter because they did grow very quickly.
