what does "shink wrap" actually mean?

You'll know it when you see it. It's when the humidity is too low (or sometimes can happen if there's a pip directly under the fan in a forced air) and the inner membrane dries out and sticks to the chick. When this happens, the chick will not hatch without assistance, as they get stuck in position and can't move.

I use a wet q-tip to dampen the membrane every now and then to keep it soft while I wait for the chick to get ready to complete the hatch.
