What does this lovely sound mean?

When I turn off the lights at night, my chicks make this sweet chirping, warbling, trilling sort of sound. They are about a month old now. I have four of them. They sound so sweet. They do this for about a half hour or so and then fall asleep. What are they doing? Is this a way they soothe themselves and each other? Thanks in advance.

Good to know! Mine are 5 weeks old and do it as well. if I talk to them, they quiet down and go to sleep. if I don't talk to them, they keep right on doing it. One night, it went on for an hour until I said OK girls, off to bed. And off they went! Now it seems like its a routine!

Mine do the same thing at night. They are about 5wks old or so now and it sounds almost like they are purring to each other. If thats their soothing sound, they certainly soothe me right to sleep
