What does this noise mean?

My chickens do that too. I think it could be either a threat response(super loud with hiding), begging(low clucking with following), or pecking order(medium clucking with chasing). I think that they do it when laying but I'm unsure as only one of six is producing. I have see the laying process but I've never heard anything before seeing her on the nest.

Here is a video, the noise is at the start. It's not much in this video but when they all get going its loud.

Mine do that.... it usually means that they're REALLY hungry (aka really in need of the treats they think I'm carrying) or they also do it when they're on alert for a predator. They have a different call when there's a real threat, but if they've noticed a cat and are watching to see if it becomes a threat, that noise you described is the noise they make.
