What does your duck house look like?

Hi there! Thanks! I left a 1ft open gap above the windows so the mallards can fly in/out as they please. I ended up covering the plexiglass roof with shingles bc it got a little toasty during the day. Other than that, they seem to like it. I'm putting out first born babies in there today.

Love it! In the nest there are those duck eggs? Mine are yet to lay so no clue what they look like... Beyond that they look like eggs

Nice looking house, give them some windows so they can have some light and they will probably like it better, you can cut them in and put hardware cloth over to keep out preds. But they are blessed to have you herd them in to keep them safe they just don't realize it.

Have you tried suspending water with poultry nipples, less mess, this way if they spill all the wTer they still have some

I have the issue right now that i lay down dry straw in the corner on the concrete of my workshop floor, and they made a nice nest that they sleep in at night, but what happens with the ducklings, is they go crazy in their water drinker (even when suspended) and water gets everywhere and then makes wet straw and combined with the dirt and poo, just gets mucky. And then its hard to clean because i don't want to get the rest of the dry straw wet.Laying these down could be my solution for a nice insulated easy-to-clean surface that is easy on their little webbed feet. Oh okay well you have done your part, I don't know how old your ducks are but mine learn for the older ones and now they all are ready to go inside their houses around 4:00pm in the afternoon ready to snuggle down into their shavings for the night. But My youngest last summer always wanted to stay out after dark I'd have to herd them in every night now since they are going on 2 they just waddle on inside by themselves.

Oh okay well you have done your part, I don't know how old your ducks are but mine learn for the older ones and now they all are ready to go inside their houses around 4:00pm in the afternoon ready to snuggle down into their shavings for the night. But My youngest last summer always wanted to stay out after dark I'd have to herd them in every night now since they are going on 2 they just waddle on inside by themselves.

that makes sense then they are all ducklings the youngest is one month and the oldest is 3 months brought them all home at the same time so they have no one to learn from and they weren't handled much so they walk away from me not to me

Ducks like repetition so keep on with them and your teaching them something that will finally catch on. They like to eat so encourage them of an evening to come to their house or pen for something really special, mine love dried mealworms/ a bit of whole corn they only get this as a special treat so when i bring out the can and shake and whistle everyone comes running, the chickens have to watch out or the ducks and geese will run over them. lol They all learn real good it's being consistent on our part that counts.

I agree, I give mine some mealworms once they get in their house. After a while they get used to it and usually head to the house when they see me coming their way in the evening (if they are not already in).
