I know what you mean! I grew up in Tucson (19 yrs) so I know those long summers! I loved Colo. weather, "even steven" as you put it but we wanted country life and couldn't afford anything there so we looked all around, even Oregon! I wish it would warm up around here too, I think we're probably in the same weather pattern route!

I'm sure next month, we'll be cooking again! Along with all those wildfires. maybe with all this rain it will be better this year. It gets pretty smoky here in our valley. I don't care much for the longer winters here but like my transition from Tucson to Colo, I'm sure I'll eventually get use to it!

We've been here now 2 years as of April.

P.S. Your place looks like Heaven too! I wish I had your trees!!!!!!

Oh, man, you guys are making me sooooooo jealous!!! expecially greyfields and horsegirl, so far (have been skipping around pages so I am sure I missed some others!)

We have a long-range plan to sell our suburban house and go rural, and I was always envisioning restoring a great old Maine farmhouse like some of you have done. But we renovated this 1926 house we're in (mostly by ourselves) and it was SO MUCH WORK. Plus, with the cost of heating oil going up, I honestly don't know how folks in this state are going to be able to heat the older houses...... So the current plan is to build a VERY green modern home with a lot of recycled materials, passive solar, radiant floor heating, maybe geothermal if its affordable enough by then, definitely some solar and wind... you get the picture. The one thig I will REALLY miss about that, though, is an old barn with history and character. Oh, well!!

For now, this is our house and coop:

Here's our farm in northern France - it's beautiful we have a big barn, a lovely large pond with a chalet and acres of fields! The house look old but it's very modern inside and is heaven!!! It over 100 years old and was bombed during WW1 and WW2.

Oops, sorry, forgot I couldn't say that other word (edit)

SeaChick, love your house, too. So open and airy!
