What duck should I get?

Ducks need to be protected almost more so than chickens because they cannot fly to get away. Ducks don't roost so they are very easy targets.

i've only lost ducks to predator attacks. If you can protect them from those, they are way more hardy than chickens. I lose chickens to unknown things a lot, but have never lost a duck to anything but old age and predators.

i would pick magpies.. they are the sweetest ducks i have ever owned, the other breeds that i owned were sweet 2, they were black swedish, call, cayuga, and runner.

I love love love my welsh harlequins, but Pekins are usually easier to find and are super sweet too (my Lily is a sweetie). DH came home from tractor supply the other day and said it was all he could do to not buy some pekin ducklings while he was there. Chick Days are going on right now at all the tractor supply stores if you have one near you.

I love Pekins 'cuz they're total hams! <3 So are Call ducks...in fact, I'd say Calls are just miniature Pekins as far as personality, snuggle factor and outright silliness! But with Pekins you get eggs. And they're a bit hardier, obviously, since, you know, smaller mass = less protection from the cold. :/
