Went for a walk today and saw loads of ducks on the canal. Mostly mallards. There was one going a bit bonkers but looked different it had a big tuft on its head! Looked really cute. Does anyone know what breed?

There is a breed called crested ducks that are usually white or black. According to Wikipedia, in Europe, most breeds of ducks have crested versions due to crossing. For instance crested versions of Blue Swedish ducks. I think this is a crested duck cross.

Crested Ducks happen in all breeds..It's a genetic deformity, nothing to continue breeding. The skull is not closed.

But they are bred. They're in the standards in both the US and Britain. From what I'm reading, they are acceptable in many colors in the British standard, so that would be where to look to figure out which color this one is if it is not a cross.

It's definitely not the right color for a Khaki Campbell drake.

Yes..Your correct but it's still a genetic defect..

Definitely. And it's not a breed I would want to raise, personally. But they are definitely different looking.
Hens get killed from breeding because the Drakes grab onto the head with the open skull. My friend took in 7 Crested Buff. Has only Drakes left. Hens were all killed.
