Imp was sorta right. We have digital TV because in can be compressed. The formerly free airways and frequencies were then open to be auctioned off to the highest bidders. Cell phone companies and others.

No one who knows me will ever believe I'm sorta right.

Thanks for the best compliment all day.

I understand why the govt is doing this, but believe it will force us "free TV user" to go with new TVs and either cable or satelite, to get any kind of TV reception. In my initial experiments with digital TV I got very good reception intermittently(like maybe a couple minutes), and I live in an urban area. Also it has varied by the day (one day I can get CBS the next not) So I guess I need to read the manual and look into buying new or better antennas.

Imp- I also get better internet connection by standing on my roof and yelling. My Qwest DSL edited word

I have been fighting with my converter box for awhile. The commercials make you to believe all you had to hook up this box to your atenna and lo and behold you get clear digital pictures. Now I find out that you have to purchase a good attenna to get any channels at all. I have the box and you have to position the rabbit ears close to an exterior wall. I am lucky to get at least 3 channels and I don't even get them half of the time! All I ask is get ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX and maybe a PBS station. I don't have cable because I can't afford it and I wouldn't watch half of the channels. I am planning on buying a tv with a digital tuner built in. Will that give me at least the channels I listed. The pictures are really nice but I can't get a CBS channel now with the converter box! I was happy with the analog,

The reason for the move to digital the lower bands getting over crowded with EMS traffic. The higher up you go the less distance your signal will travel. It was ether have EMS move way up an have radio issues or push TV from VHF to UHF. As soon as there done EMS is being pushed in to the VHF range where TV is now. Analog does not travel far on UHF so the Digital change had to happen. It was ether EMS issues trying to use 900mh, going digital or discontinue broadcast TV. So this is what we got.

Dont buy a antenna just build one out of coat hangers. Google or youtube UHF Antenna.
