Ok, I have had my chickens for a little over a year now. It seems that about the time I think everything is going great, SOMETHING happens.
1) did not know I had 2 raccoons living in the area, 1wont be a problem to anyone ever again and the other will have BB's in his butt for the rest of his life. lol!
2) first flock were not even laying yet and a dog got into the coop and killed every one of my chickens (when he came back the next day, hubby shot him)
3) I did not know chickens had cycles and about had a stroke when I thought the second flock were sick because their poo was GROSS looking. (thanks BYC member who helped me with that)
4) I did not know chickens can have worm problems, I do now! :)
5) I knew they could get mites, and am pretty sure they do, so I will have to get some powder for that
6) NOW..............my rooster and 1 of my 9 hens have the whitish powdery stuff with scabs on his comb. I think its flavus, and will treat it with clotrimazole cream.

Is there anything else that happens 'could happen' on a regular bases that I need to know about? I hate not having meds/creams/powders on hand should I need it. Or not knowing something that might hurt them and could have been prevented.

Hi!
It's good to keep an emergency kit on hand.
Blu-Kote wound protectant
Styptic Powder to stop bleeding
Gauze
Vetrap
Triple Antibiotic Ointment
Saline Solution
Vetricyn
General Antibiotic (Terramycin, Duramycin, Tylan)

I also like to have the following just in case:
Wazine 17 dewormer
Sav-A-Chick Electrolytes and Probiotics
Garden and Poultry Dust
There is also a product called Equine Clot. It is gauze that contains a mineral that stops bleeding very quickly. Although it is marketed for horses, it is safe for chickens too.

Good Luck!

I agree with this, also some coccidiostat is needed too.
