Okay. So I might be overthinking this, but here goes.

I was collecting my eggs as normal when I spotted... this?

Is this a thing? Or did this perfectly intact EE egg just get shoved into a broken eggshell? That peeled-off hole is the membrane of the brown egg and, under that, the shell of the blue egg. We have one EE and I'm guessing the brown egg is from one of our RIRs. Was it a RIR egg with two layers? Or what? I must know! :lau

The brown egg most likely has a weak shell, and was eaten, the EE egg was then laid and in the jostling process, the other shell got cupped over the EE egg. When eggs are hatching in the incubator, it's a common occurrence for one shell to be cupped over an other.
