What exactly is flogging?

I have a rooster who recently jumped up and hit me in the back of the leg. I chased him down and scared the beejeezus out of him but should I expect another attempt from him? Is this flogging? Can he be scared back to his senses or is there a method for treating this?

Sounds like flogging to me! That's when they run up behind you and crash into you. Yes, you should expect him to attack again. I still have to give my mean EE roo, Mr. Wimpy, another talk. The first "talk" I gave him has worn off, and sometimes when he sees me he starts acting cocky and running after me. (Keep in mind that mean roos are cock-eyed and often act innocent if they know you're watching!)

Yup, that is flogging! They flap their wings and kick their legs up to spur you if they have them. My little banty does it but feels like my dog bumping into me. Now when the BO roo did it, he bout knocked me down! You need to let them know who is boss. There are many different ways of doing that. Good luck stopping it.

To me flogging technically involves them jumping on you and flapping their wings and flogging you with them. They can beat on you pretty good with them.

I have been jumped on or more exactly jumped at. I have never been flogged, but imagine it is just a matter of time. I walk right at and through the cocks when I am in the yard. I always always make sure that they know that they need to get out of my way and not the other way around. Just don't turn your back on a rooster. Show no fear and lots of confidence.

Thanks for the help. He is a banty so he wasn't hitting me too hard but he was doing just what everyone is explaining. I booted him, chased him and went after him with a rake; it was quite the sight. But I thought "if he's doing what I think he's doing, he's not getting away with it." He ran the other way but I'm curious if he'll try it again.

Someone else on this forum mentioned that you can't kick a mean roo, because that's just like challenging him to a fight. You have to fight him on a different level. If nothing else works, try whacking him over the head with a plastic hockey stick or something, just to knock the message into his birdy brain. (Ask me how I know it works! Mr. Wimpy, here I come!)

Ah, that explains why my roo continues to beat the crap out of me.

I guess the kicking him away was just an invitation... I shall go find a hockey stick.

Brooms work well and you don't need as good an aim as you do with a hockey stick.
