What feed do you give your silkies?

Question: *Too much Calcium* could be the cause of leg problems leading to the inability to walk (& death)?? I had 2 Banty Cochins & 1 Silkie die with this...my heart breaks each time. I feed them poultry starter crumbles (won't eat pellets) & crushed egg shells. The starter is made by a local feed store: 22% protein, Calcium min 0.8% max 1.3%. Any advice is appreciated!

I don't know what caused your birds to die, but how old are the ones you are feeding now?

The ones I hatched are 1-2 yr old; I don't know the ages of two hens that were given to me, but they're still young enough to lay eggs & go broody.
